Fiscal uncertainty has plagued California public schools for over 30 years, reaching its nexus during the financial crisis of 2008-09. Dating back as far as 1978, the State funding model for public schools has created tremendous fiscal uncertainty for all school districts, with wide annual swings in financial resources. This led to a financial "feast or famine" in schools, with far more famines.
In the spring of 2008, a group of community members and district staff began conversations regarding the need for, and potential viability of, a non-profit foundation for the students served by the Corona-Norco Unified School District to help replenish what buget-cuts have eleminated. The Corona-Norco Schools Educational Foundation (CNSEF) was created in 2010 and quickly found sponsors to help fund grants in the following areas:
- Academic Intervention Programs
- Technology Upgrades
- Arts and Music Programs
- After-School Enrichment
In just a few short years, CNSEF has raised and donated all proceeds back to Corona-Norco schools, totaling nearly $500,000. The organization consists of community members, district employees (former and current), and district board members - all uniting for the common good of benefiting our children and educators.
